Jim Driver, promoter of the slightly unfortunately named Club Bangbang that are hosting tonight's Wilko Johnson bash, called me this morning to see if I was still OK for tonight. Apparently all ticket sales stopped at two o'clock yesterday afternoon.
Personally I'm more worried by the drive into London and by having to pay the ludicrous eight pound congestion charge. It may have turned into a cliche but we have to carry on as normal otherwise the terrorists will have won. It's just a shame it isn't Tony Blair who gets frightened, inconvenienced, or blown up.
See you tonight at the 100 Club.

The 100 Club gig was quite wonderful. Despite the explosions and bomb scares people showed up and the place was just short of completely sold out. I did the whole thing with electric guitars - Harmony Sillhouette, Gibson 330 and the famous big green Microfret plugged into my trusty old Selmer Tru-voice 50 watt amplifier. It made a change, normally I use a 15 watt Ampeg which has a pretty good sound though it isn't really loud enough on the stage. I dumped the acoustic guitar too - my acoustic playing is fairly violent at times and I get tired of breaking strings. This is all information for anoraks.
For the semi-anoraks the set went something like: Joe Meek, The Golden Hour Of Harry Secombe, Same, Continuity Girl, Swimming Against The Tide Of Reason, Walking On The Surface Of The Moon, Whole Wide World, Local, 33s & 45s.
For the slightly less than semi-anoraks: I wore a genuine 1970's brown velvet suit with a black t-shirt and a pair of green suede and felt shoes. I threw two guitar picks into the audience which slightly fucked-up the budget and made me feel a bit Chris Martin (silly cunt), but I got carried away by the moment.
I drank water all night.
Wilko, Norman and Monti were on top form and I got to see him again the next night at the hideous Norwich Arts Centre. I've written stuff about Wilko before and I can't quite think of anything to add to it at the moment. So for a short tribute to Wilko

Actually there isn't much about Wilko in those links but you get the idea. And it's quite good if someone reads a bit of the archive from time to time. It's just sitting there gathering virtual dust. Perhaps I should edit it and make it into a slim volume.
